NFL Power Rankings 2020, Week 12: Chiefs claim No. 1 spot, Packers drop again
When you look at the final score and see that the Los Angeles Chargers only beat the lowly Jets by six points, you might find yourself concerned about the Bolts as this was just their third win of the season. But the final tally isn’t fully indicative of the performance from the Chargers in the win.
For starters, rookie quarterback Justin Herbert continued his torrid bid to win Offensive Rookie of the Year with another fantastic outing. The young signal-caller completed 37-of-49 passes for 366 yards and three touchdowns and was lights-out as LA jumped out to a big early lead.
And that big early lead is pivotal to understanding why this was a good game for the Chargers. The team led by 18 points on two separate occasions, including midway through the third quarter. Even with this team’s late-game struggles, the outcome on Sunday was never truly in doubt as the Jets put up some garbage-time points to make it closer.
Herbert and the Chargers definitely need a lesson in finishing strong if they want to improve their 3-7 record. While that may be true, this team has to be hopeful due to Herbert’s performance in his first NFL season and that they’ve been able to compete with most anyone, even if they don’t have the wins to show for it.
