The Kansas City Chiefs earned their victory lap with their performance in the clutch.

For much of the week, the focus was on the Las Vegas Raiders taking a victory lap around Arrowhead Stadium after beating the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 5. On Sunday night in Week 11, however, Kansas City responded with a 35-31 victory over their division rival to improve to 9-1 thanks to a late touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes to Travis Kelce and a game-sealing interception by Daniel Sorensen.

It was noted that Kansas City was upset about what the Raiders had done and were bent on showing up on Sunday night and exacting revenge. Moreover, a number of players for Vegas had been placed on the reserve/COVID list. Regardless, Kansas City found a way to get one over on their rivals and establish firmer control in the AFC West.

Mahomes once again proved why he, the reigning Super Bowl MVP, is the franchise player and how clutch he can be. 348 passing yards and two touchdowns tell the story. Given how the Raiders looked to pressure him all night, it’s clear that the Texas Tech product is truly a remarkable player.

While Mahomes and the offense were in sync, the defense struggled for much of the game until it came to make a stop on the final drive, which they did. Thus, they continue their quest for a repeat.

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are scary when motivated.

There’s no debate, both Kansas City and Las Vegas will be a tough matchup for any team that they continue to go up against for the rest of the season and in the playoffs. However, Kansas City must remember while they had a right to be upset that the Raiders paraded around their stadium, they too celebrated prematurely against a now 0-10 Jets team. But two wrongs don’t make a right.

Mahomes understood that as does coach Andy Reid. So they proceed forward and made up for it. However, while the Chiefs have earned the right to enjoy a victory lap, they must also see that the road back to the Super Bowl is difficult given the circumstances in the AFC and how competitive it truly is.

Pittsburgh is still undefeated, Indianapolis is on the rise after a comeback win. The Raiders are not out and neither are teams such as Baltimore, Buffalo or even Cleveland, for that matter. Are they better than the Chiefs? Likely not but that’s no excuse to take them lightly.

Kansas City learned in Week 5 to not underestimate an opponent. They made up for it this week, but for the rest of this season and beyond, they must understand that their best football must be applied every week for both sides if they wish to stand in Tampa Bay with their second straight Lombardi Trophy.
