Chicago Bears: 5 Keys to beating Packers in Week 12
2. Chicago Bears’ running game needs to step up
As noted earlier, the Bears’ running game has been struggling. After gaining 130 or more rushing yards in each of the first three games of the season, they haven’t gained 100 yards in any of the last seven. The closest they came to reaching triple digits was against the Saints in Week 8.
This is a Packers defense that the Bears could take advantage of. Green Bay ranks 20th in rushing touchdowns allowed and 21st in average yards per run. The opportunity to break off some big runs will be there and the Bears’ running backs need to make the big plays.
The Bears have a good trio of running backs to use. They have David Montgomery, Lamar Miller and Artavis Pierce. If they’re used properly, the Bears could wear the Packers down. Montgomery has the ability to break tackles. He has incredible balance and is very shifty. With a three-headed monster, his ability to break tackles could result in big runs down the stretch.
Miller can help the Bears both by running the ball and catching passes out of the backfield. With Pierce, they have a back who has good burst. As the game progresses, his burst through an open hole can result in him breaking a long run.
The Bears have the running backs who could exploit the Packers’ defensive faults. If they can do it, Chicago has a good chance of winning this game.
