2021 NFL Mock Draft: Zach Wilson goes top-5 to Washington, Falcons land Trey Lance
By Randy Gurzi
While the loss of Dak Prescott has been devastating for the Dallas Cowboys, they were struggling to win games with him early in 2020. There were two reasons for this. One was an atrocious defense that allowed every team to score 40 points on them. The other was a rash of injuries on the offensive line that rendered the running game ineffective and didn’t allow Prescott enough time in the pocket.
Their defense has been a mess but they at least have some players such as Trevon Diggs, Neville Gallimore, and Randy Gregory who have been better and should be around for a while — even with Diggs being knocked out of the remainder of this season. Even with those players being mentioned, they will need to add defenders in the draft but with this pick, they have to address the offensive line.
Tyron Smith is one of the better left tackles in the game but hit’s become clear he cannot stay healthy. Dallas is going to fork out a lot of money (or at least they should) for Prescott, and they have to protect him better.
Matt Ryan is not the problem with the Atlanta Falcons but he will be 36-years old in 2021 which means he won’t be the solution for whoever ends up as their next head coach. Don’t be shocked to see him traded in the offseason as they begin a youth movement.
With that being said, they land Trey Lance out of North Dakota State. Lance has seen his stock drop some since the Bisons only played one game this season, which has allowed players such as Zach Wilson to leapfrog him. Even with that happening, Lance becomes the face of a franchise and remains a top-10 pick.
