Mitch Ttrubisky had an opportunity to revive his career with the Chicago Bears.

Chicago Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky had a great opportunity to show the team and the fans that he learned something from his benching way back in Week 3. He got a chance to stand from the sideline and watch what was happening on the field. He said he felt blind-sighted by the benching and was hoping for a second chance to prove he could lead this team.

He got his chance in Week 12 but failed miserably to show any improvement. He still had bad mechanics and made some very bad decisions. He threw an interception into double coverage in the end zone.

Later, he apparently felt that wasn’t a bad enough decision so he threw into triple coverage on a third-and-11 (with a wide-open Allen Robinson beyond the stick on the other side) and again it was intercepted.

Additionally, he fumbled the ball twice, losing one of them. He also failed to throw the ball away when receivers weren’t open. On one play, he held onto the ball too long and took a sack. On another, instead of throwing the ball away, he ran straight out of bounds behind the line of scrimmage. Those were two of the three sacks the Bears’ offensive line gave up Sunday night.

Trubisky did not look like a player who took what happened seriously and spent his time trying to improve. Everything stated above are criticisms that we constantly hear about him. It seems that all he did while benched was just sulk.

Nothing has changed for Mitch Trubisky with the Chicago Bears, which is why he’s likely done.

One of the biggest criticisms of the Bears’ offense is the offensive line. Yes, it’s been bad, even when healthy. Add injuries and COVID and the unit has been in shambles. However, the line did a good job on Sunday night. He had a clean pocket for the most part. Yes, there were times when there were breakdowns, but that happens even with the best lines, so considering that those breakdowns on this line were cut down quite a bit, that was a success.

Despite that, Trubisky could not do much when it mattered. Sure, he threw a couple of great passes. That’s what makes it so frustrating to watch him. In the middle of all his failures, he’ll make a couple of plays that impress. You’re left wondering if indeed he can be the guy.

He isn’t the guy, though.

The next day, head coach Matt Nagy wouldn’t commit to Trubisky as the starter for Week 13 against Detroit. He’s set to make that start as of Wednesday but the confidence is clearly not high.

Trubisky’s downfall is incredible. He’s gone from the second overall pick to being the “why not” starter. He plays well against the Lions. Against them, he’s completed 67.5 percent of his passes, and has 14 touchdown passes against just 4 interceptions. He has a 106.0 passer rating. Also, he has 21 rushes for 112 yards and a touchdown on the ground. It won’t be surprising if he gets another start.

Trubisky has just about sealed his fate in Chicago. There have been too many of the same mistakes happening over and over again. He may put it all together someday, but it just won’t happen in Chicago.
