The Los Angeles Chargers continue to lose in spectacular fashion.

Ever since Super Bowl LI, the Atlanta Falcons have had the reputation of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, kickstarted by blowing a 28-3 lead to the New England Patriots. The Los Angeles Chargers have since taken that role over, specifically in the 2020 NFL season.

The Chargers have always had a history and reputation of losing games in heartbreaking fashion but this year has taken the cake. There have been blown leads, incomplete comebacks and head-scratching play calls at the end of games that are entertaining for the NFL community but maybe not so much for Chargers fans.

With the internet and Twitter, in particular, being influential in the landscape of sports, it’s gotten to the point where fans are almost anticipating the Chargers to lose games in a wildly entertaining fashion, and they have always delivered. The most recent spectacle is summarized below:

This season is almost an exaggerated version of the Anthony Lynn era. The Chargers have loads of talent, but they almost can’t get out of their own way. Sure, there are reasons to be optimistic. The Chargers are once again dealing with the injury bug and should have key players returning, namely Derwin James. Most significantly, Justin Herbert (and his new haircut) appears to be the real deal as far as franchise quarterbacks go.

Talent-wise, if they work on improving the offensive line for Herbert, the sky is the limit since the talent is there when it comes to the skill positions. It may be time to move on and find a new coach, however. That’s not saying Lynn is a bad coach, if the Chargers did move on from him it wouldn’t take long for him to get another job as an assistant at the very least

The Chargers just need to try and shake this label of almost parodying their reputation each week by starting fresh while their young, talented core is intact. For right now and the rest of 2020, they might as well embrace it and focus on the draft. Helping Herbert is priority number one.
