NFC North. Chicago Bears. Chicago Bears. 1. player. 57.

No. 1 on potential landing spots for Matthew Stafford is the Chicago Bears, who always seem to be in quarterback hell. The Bears are going to have to watch Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson tear things up for the next decade while they’ll be left wondering what could have been.

They need to move on from passing on both of those quarterbacks eventually and getting Stafford for the next few years could help them wipe away those tears. The tricky part here is that the Lions aren’t going to trade their franchise quarterback to a divisional opponent, so Stafford could only land in Chicago if he’s outright released.

The Bears have a really good defense, but watching their offense is painful. Nick Foles and Mitchell Trubisky aren’t the answer in the Windy City, but getting a quarterback with a big arm like Stafford would be enough to propel this Bears offense from bad to good. Stafford knows the Bears well too, as he’s played against them twice a year for his entire career.

Again, Stafford isn’t landing with Chicago if he’s traded unless the Bears are willing to give up a king’s ransom, but that isn’t likely for a 32-year-old quarterback who has zero playoff wins on his resumé. If Detroit does release Stafford, then Chicago would be an incredible fit for him.

There’s a chance that Stafford returns to play for the Lions in 2021, but at this point in his career, it’s time for both him and the Lions to move on from each other. If he does move onto greener pastures, these five teams are intriguing options.
