After several postponements, the Pittsburgh Steelers channeled anger and stayed perfect.
The Pittsburgh Steelers had their matchup against divisional rival Baltimore postponed three times after a COVID-19 outbreak within the Ravens organization. Not to minimize the long-term health of the players, there was clear disappointment — and a bit of anger — that the game had been postponed in the first place.
Pittsburgh simply turned their anger into motivation and the Steelers defense came out firing as they defeated their short-handed rivals, 19-14, to stay perfect on the season at 11-0 and be atop the AFC. The Ravens, meanwhile, continue to push themselves out of the playoff picture a year after they were at the top of the conference.
This was not the first time Pittsburgh had to deal with a postponement. Earlier this season, they had a matchup against the Tennessee Titans postponed due to that opponent experiencing outbreak. The Steelers simply got the last laugh with a missed field goal victory.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have proven that they can overcome adversity
The 2020 NFL season has been challenging for everyone. From fans to coaches and especially players. Pittsburgh, on the other hand, has been a team to jump at a chance to play and prove their might. Their philosophy was shown on Joe Haden‘s pick-six against Baltimore that set the tone and sent a message.
Mike Tomlin’s team isn’t just well-coached, they’re aggressive. They are opportune and talented, which thus allows the Steelers to have shortcomings and overcome them when the chips seem to stack against them.
Furthermore, Pittsburgh has been overlooked as favorites in the AFC and they are playing like a team with a chip on their shoulder. Will they finish the regular season undefeated? Probably not, but they certainly want a Lombardi Trophy to make it seven of them on dispaly.
Pittsburgh knows what they are up against. They have something to prove, plus, the majority of their roster is healthy and they made moves to bring in players that have the goal of winning in mind and have embraced that culture. All the qualities and ingredients needed to overcome adversity and produce a championship.
