New Orleans Saints: Taysom Hill, Michael Thomas forming a makeshift dynamic duo
Could the New Orleans Saints have a new dynamic duo featuring Taysom Hill?
The New Orleans Saints have had some dynamic duos over the years. In most recent years, we’ve seen a lot of different combinations. Whether it be Drew Brees and Brandin Cooks, Drew Brees and Jimmy Graham, or Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara, the Saints had no shortage of connections on the team. However, there could be one dynamic duo emerging that no one saw coming and that’s Taysom Hill and Michael Thomas.
Before getting into their connection, it’s important to note that these two probably weren’t going to be anyone’s guess for a dynamic duo. Most of us assumed Jameis Winston would be taking up the mantle when Drew Brees went down. However, the Saints decided to go a different direction with things and it’s working out well for them.
Now heading into Week 14 and with Hill having posted a 3-0 record as the Saints’ starter, it’s crazy to think that this tandem is quickly emerging as another dynamic duo for New Orleans.
The New Orleans Saints can bank on the Taysom Hill-Michael Thomas connection.
Thus far this season, Hill has only started in three games, twice against the Atlanta Falcons and once against Denver Broncos. He has been decently impressive but hasn’t really ascended as we thought. And his latest game was his most impressive, tossing the first touchdowns of his NFL career. But his connection with Thomas has been the best part of his wark.
Thomas has made up for lost time after missing games due to injury. Against the Falcons, Thomas finished the game with nine receptions for 104 yards. Then against the Broncos, Thomas finished the game with four receptions for 50 yards. In the rematch with the Falcons, he also finished the game with nine receptions for 150 yards.
While Hill and Thomas’s connection might not be as iconic as the latter’s with Brees, the two have the potential to become so much more. No doubt, Hill has a while to go before he could be considered Brees’ equal but relying on Thomas gives him an advantage.
Thomas also thrived last season working with Teddy Bridgewater and he could flourish similarly with Hill. Even though it won’t be anything like his connection with Brees, Thomas is talented enough to make Hill great. He has yet to get a touchdown but it’s only a matter of time.
No doubt the New Orleans Saints didn’t think they’d be in this situation again. For now, though, Hill is making the best of it and using the tools the Saints have given him. While it’s unclear if he’s going to take over for Brees in the future, having Thomas there is the security he needs.
