Sam Darnold: 6 NFL teams that could revive quarterback’s career in 2021
Sam Darnold 2021 landing spot No. 4: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tom Brady signed a two-year deal with the Buccaneers prior to this season so he’ll be halfway through it when the 2020 season wraps up. This would be the perfect time for the Bucs to find the next guy after Brady, and Darnold would make a lot of sense here.
Not only would Darnold be with a good team, but he’d get a year of tutelage under Brady (assuming he’s cooler than he was with Jimmy Garoppolo back in their New England days) and would have Bruce Arians as his coach. That’s a huge upgrade over Adam Gase.
The Buccaneers currently have a quarterback room that consists of Brady, Blaine Gabbert, Ryan Griffin, and Josh Rosen, who was also a first-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Gabbert isn’t starting material, Griffin is a journeyman, and Rosen is on his third team in as many years. Darnold could be a nice solution for the Bucs when Brady’s contract comes to an end.
If nothing else, maybe they can then trade him for a decent draft pick if they decide it’s not going to work out. This seems like a good fit for both sides though.
