Sam Darnold 2021 landing spot No. 3: Indianapolis Colts

The Colts, barring a big collapse, are going to make the playoffs this season. While that’s fun and exciting, it makes it difficult for them to find a quarterback since they’ll be picking in the back half of the first round.

That pretty much forces the Colts to turn to free agency to find their next quarterback. They won’t be re-signing Philip Rivers unless he balls out in the playoffs and singlehandedly takes them on a deep run. So, who could the Colts realistically target?

I’ve already linked them to both Matthew Stafford and Carson Wentz so why not link them to yet another name? Sam Darnold makes sense for the Colts in a lot of ways. He’s young and hasn’t played with a good organization yet. That would change with the Colts, who have done things backward. They have a tip-top offensive line, tremendous weapons, and a smothering defense. The only thing that’s missing is a quarterback to reap the benefits of those around them.

Most quarterbacks would kill for a situation that the Colts have and that’s what makes this such an attractive fit. The only thing here is would the Colts be hesitant about throwing Darnold in right away when he’s struggled so badly? They’ll have to decide if this would be a move that would benefit the franchise or set them back several years.
