Sam Darnold 2021 landing spot No. 1: San Francisco 49ers

This might seem odd to have the 49ers No. 1 but hear me out. Kyle Shanahan has done wonders with quarterbacks. We saw it in Atlanta when he was the Falcons’ offensive coordinator and helped Matt Ryan win his only MVP award. The Falcons also went to the Super Bowl that year (we don’t need to revisit how that ended).

Jimmy Garoppolo hasn’t lived up to the hype in San Francisco and he’s cuttable this offseason. Sam Darnold is the best young option on the trade market this offseason and the 49ers would have a lot of talent surrounding the former No. 3 overall pick. Shanahan could save Darnold’s career while also getting the Niners their franchise quarterback.

Niners fans might not be jumping up and down at the thought of acquiring Darnold, but this is most definitely worth a shot. If it works out, they have their guy for the next decade. If it doesn’t, it’s probably a foregone conclusion that Darnold isn’t starting quarterback material.

This could be a really nice fit for both Sam Darnold and for the San Francisco 49ers. Will they pull the trigger and make the trade?

Sam Darnold didn’t get put into a great situation when the New York Jets drafted him third overall just two years ago. He’s been largely inconsistent, has battled injuries, and the Jets have been a joke the entire time he’s been their quarterback. Not all of that is Darnold’s fault, but with the No. 1 overall pick in their sights, Trevor Lawrence is coming to Gang Green, and fair or not, Darnold will be on his way out.
