Chicago Bears: How Ryan Pace turned the 2020 season into a nightmare
High-priced Quinn hasn’t paid off yet
The biggest move made by Pace was to sign edge rusher Robert Quinn to a five-year, $70 million deal.
Quinn is a two-time Pro Bowler and a former All-Pro. Teaming him up with All-World linebacker Khalil Mack would give the Chicago Bears a powerful pass rush. That hasn’t been the case, however.
For the season, Quinn has a grand total of nine tackles and one sack. He also has two forced fumbles. So far, the Bears haven’t gotten their money’s worth.
Quinn replaced Leonard Floyd. Floyd wasn’t able to take pressure away from Mack so he could do his thing. Last season, he recorded a career-low three sacks.
Pace decided that the team couldn’t pay him the $15 million he was due with the Bears. The team let him go and signed Quinn. This season, Floyd has recorded a career-high seven sacks while Quinn and Mack combined for 7.5 sacks. That was definitely not expected.
Seeing Floyd thrive somewhere else and having Quinn struggle is difficult to handle. Now the Bears are stuck with Quinn for at least one more season. There is an out clause after the 2021 season. We can only hope he has a better 2021 than in 2020.
