New England Patriots 2021 QB option No. 2: Dak Prescott

One of the more intriguing storylines from last offseason was the situation between the Dallas Cowboys and quarterback Dak Prescott it relation to negotiations surrounding a contract negotiation.

Both the Cowboys and Prescott made it known leading up to the 2020 season that they wanted to make something work and come to some sort of agreement. That ultimately didn’t happen, with Dallas being stubborn to give a hefty contract to the quarterback resulting in the Cowboys applying the franchise tag on Prescott.

Then, around the midway point in the 2020 season, Prescott suffered a gruesome ankle injury that will sideline him for a remainder of the year, which could add yet another hurdle in any contract negotiations this offseason between the quarterback and the organization.

If Prescott would end up parting ways with Dallas and he gets frustrated enough to the point where he wants to take his talents elsewhere in 2021, the Patriots should do just about anything they can to try and bring in Prescott to lead the offense in New England.

I’m sure New England would absolutely love to have Prescott under center of the offense in 2021 and beyond, but the question remains at what cost would that come at. Prescott is likely going to require an annual contract of about $35-40 million a year, which is a hefty price to pay for any player, especially one that is coming off of a major injury like Prescott is.

It will be interesting to follow the process between the Cowboys and their 27-year-old quarterback yet again this offseason, and I’m sure the Patriots and every other team around the NFL will also be watching closely.
