These five NFL teams will have a new quarterback when 2021 rolls around.
Once an NFL team has its quarterback, the rest hopefully falls into place. For these five teams, they’re still searching for their franchise quarterback and hope to find him this offseason.
Whether they made the wrong pick in the draft or their free-agent acquisition didn’t pan out, finding a new quarterback will be priority No. 1 when the 2020 NFL season concludes.
Here are the five teams who are going to be in the hunt for a new signal-caller next year.
No. 5 NFL team with a new QB in 2021: New England Patriots
After 20 years with the same quarterback (and a sixth-round pick nonetheless), the Patriots got to see how the other side of the world lives when Tom Brady left the organization once and for all. Initially, they seemed content on giving fourth-round pick Jarrett Stidham a chance but then signed Cam Newton to a one-year deal, giving him the edge.
Newton has not been good in 2020, throwing just five touchdown passes to 10 interceptions. The Patriots don’t have great weapons for him to throw to but be that as it may, Newton won’t be re-signed and the Pats will return to the quarterback well for the second straight year.
For the first time since 2008, the Patriots won’t make the playoffs and that means they’ll have a higher draft pick than normal. They won’t be able to land either of the top tier quarterbacks in the draft, so this might be a situation where they try to bring in another free agent quarterback and hope that it goes better than it did with Newton.
If the Patriots really wanted to give Stidham a chance, they would have done so already. He’s not their guy. They’ll be looking to bring someone new in for 2021 and hopefully beyond.
