Josh Allen leads Buffalo Bills to first division title in 25 years
Josh Allen’s spectacular play led the Buffalo Bills to the top of the AFC East.
When the Buffalo Bills last won the AFC East in 1995, Jim Kelly was the signal-caller and current quarterback Josh Allen had yet to enter the world. Fast forward to 2020, it’s the former Wyoming Cowboy leading his troops to their first division title in two and a half decades. Furthermore, the 48-19 win over the Denver Broncos on Saturday guarantees a home playoff game in Orchard Park.
The last playoff game that Buffalo emerged victorious in was in 1995 against the Miami Dolphins, ironically the same team that was the closest to challenging the Bills for the division title this season.
The previous leaders in New England were a step below their game in 2020, which then opened the door for Buffalo.
Allen’s two touchdowns through the air and two on the ground against Denver proved to be the difference-maker. Additionally, given how the offense responded and how the defense was able to join in on the fun with a touchdown of their own, the Bills look like a viable contender in the AFC.
Head coach Sean McDermott also looks to be one of the more successful fruits to have been born by the Andy Reid coaching tree.
Josh Allen and the Bills have the division crown but the job is far from done.
The victory on Saturday night has assured a joyous flight of wings and celebration back to Buffalo, but the job is not over. The Bills have appeared in the postseason five times since winning the division title. In those games, they’ve gone 0-5, including the Music City Miracle. Unlike that season, there is no quarterback controversy this year.
Given how Buffalo could have scored countless times had it not been for the yellow flags flurrying all over the field, it only adds to wondering just how good can this team be. Moreover, Allen still has the chip on his shoulder to deliver given the quarterback draft class in which he came from that includes Lamar Jackson and Baker Mayfield.
This is an auspicious moment for the members of Bills Mafia and for Josh Allen himself. What he chooses to do with this is up to him and his teammates. For now, he has assured the NFL that the tables in Buffalo are likely to be not standing for much longer.
