Zach Wilson should be a first-round consideration for the New England Patriots.
For roughly two decades, the New England Patriots earned six Super Bowl victories with not a worry in the world at quarterback. In 2020, inconsistencies at the most important position have set the franchise back and now questions are being asked. Thankfully, they can be answered in the 2021 NFL Draft due in large part to the heavy quarterback crop.
Players such as Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields are for sure going to be off the board by the time the Patriots have the opportunity to make a selection. An argument can be made that North Dakota State’s Trey Lance could end up gone early.
That leaves BYU’s Zach Wilson up for grabs. If indeed he is available at a convenient spot, New England cannot hesitate to make a move for him via trade or natural selection.
At first glance, BYU is not the school that you would think a good quarterback would arise from. However, throughout their history, they have produced Steve Young and Jim McMahon, the former being a Hall of Famer and a Super Bowl champion and the latter being the leader of the famed 1985 Bears.
While Wilson has a ways to go before even having a dream of those possibilities, his talent could very well translate.
Zach Wilson can be the quarterback of the New England Patriots of the future
After starting for the Cougars since he was a freshman, Wilson’s maturity combined with size and intangibles makes him a viable prospect for the NFL. Additionally, it must be noted that quarterbacks can come from anywhere if he is scouted, drafted, and developed properly.
It must be noted Bill Belichick, as great as he is, needs a leader on the field that can have a command of the game. Cam Newton‘s words of accountability come across as sincere. However, the results are lacking and by judging the standards in Foxborough, anything less than success is unacceptable.
Zach Wilson has had to rise and work in order to achieve the level of success that he has had. His toughness cannot also be questioned as shown in a loss to Coastal Carolina. He fits the profile of the New England Patriots and would be a staple for the franchise for the years to come.
