The Chicago Bears strong run game has them on the verge of joining the playoff field.

Just when you thought the Chicago Bears were on the verge of missing the postseason, here comes the old school philosophies that continue to toy with fans. David Montgomery‘s 146 yards has the Bears leaving the twin cities with a 33-27 victory.

It’s hard to imagine the Bears being in this situation but fans will recall the 5-1 start before the team went on a losing streak that was highlighted by members in the city calling for people’s jobs. Safe to say, there will likely be changes to the staff regardless of the outcome of this season and furthermore, there will be changes to the offense.

It’s easy to look at Mitchell Trubisky and say he won the game which he did. However, against a beleaguered Vikings defense, it was the old school philosophy of running the football and playing defense that prevailed. None was more apparent than the three sacks registered by the defense on Kirk Cousins.

No matter the season outcome, changes must be made within the Chicago Bears

The passing game of Chicago leaves a lot to be desired. Even though Trubisky won the game, which is required to receive credit in the NFL, he mostly played the role of the passenger to the running game that seized most of the controls and took over. Additionally, the defense, who had a productive game, looked at times out of sync and in need of reinforcements.

Head coach Matt Nagy will need to find ways to keep his team in position to continue the fight for the postseason even though they are currently behind the Arizona Cardinals for the last spot in the NFC Playoffs. If at all Chicago were to make the postseason, they would have to enhance their game by incorporating balance to ensure any form of success. Bad quarterback play will not do it.

The postseason is coming up and the Chicago Bears with average to below-average quarterback play are in a position to make it. It is their running game, however, that has them in such a position. Nonetheless, to ensure success beyond this season, changes will need to occur.
