Jacksonville Jaguars lost the game but won the weekend
Even with a loss to Baltimore, the Jacksonville Jaguars were big winners in Week 15.
No team likes to lose in the NFL and, so far this season, the Jacksonville Jaguars have been no stranger to defeat. That is until Week 15 of the 2020 NFL season. After falling to a 1-13 record at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens, the members of the Jaguars office popped a bottle of champagne as the New York Jets captured their first win of the season.
This, of course, means that, due to tiebreakers of the strength of schedule, the Jaguars are currently moving up the draft board to No. 1 overall and, with it, the right to select Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence. The Jaguars’ strength of schedule is 0.554 compared to the Jets’ 0.595. This would also the first No. 1 overall pick in Jaguars history.
After a Week 1 win over the Colts, the Jaguars looked like a team refusing to tank, and throughout this season, there was an effort with no results. Now, despite the loss, they managed to come away this weekend with a victory that could be beneficial down the road.
Trevor Lawrence would fit perfectly with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Jaguars are likely to move on from their staff this season and ship out other players to acquire draft capital. Furthermore, they have ownership that while has not done well in terms of wins and losses, has the patience to a plan come to fruition. Furthermore, they are well in the process of finding a good head coach and general manager to help restock the talent.
Additionally, given how Lawrence is likely to be the priority, you can expect the team to be aggressive in going after players in free agency and the draft that can compliment their signal-caller. Whether it be trench players to protect him and get to the other teams’ quarterback or the skill players such as receivers and linebackers/defensive backs, if it means helping Lawrence, they will do it.
Jacksonville has some talent at its disposal now that can be used as building blocks for the future. Thanks to the Jets though, they have moved into a spot where they can draft the player that has the potential to deliver a championship to a city that deserves it. The Jets’ victory is ultimately their biggest loss, a loss that the Jacksonville Jaguars will reap the benefits from with a franchise quarterback in Trevor Lawrence.
