NFL Power Rankings, Week 17: Cowboys inch toward playoffs, Chiefs clinch home field
By Randy Gurzi
A.J. Terrell and Younghoe Koo are going to struggle to get sleep after the Atlanta Falcons latest loss. The Dirty Birds fell to 4-11, but they took the Kansas City Chiefs down to the wire. With a 14-10 lead late in the game, Terrell made a great play on a ball intended for Tyreek Hill.
The rookie cornerback had an interception in his hands and dropped it when he hit the turf. Raheem Morris challenged the play, but no one expected that to be overturned, Terrell simply dropped it. Patrick Mahomes then made the most out of his second chance and hit Demarcus Robinson for a go-ahead touchdown.
Atlanta responded with a nine-play drive that covered 54 yards. They stalled out at the Kansas City 21, but that still gave Koo a shot at tying the game. Unfortunately, the Falcons kicker was wide-right on his attempt and that meant they would once again have to head home with a loss.
There have been rumors though, that the Falcons were seeing their future coach on the other side of the field. Chiefs’ offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy has been linked to head coaching jobs the past couple of seasons, and Atlanta could be a landing spot for him. Maybe their performance on Sunday convinced him that they would be a good fit for him as well.
