NFL Power Rankings, Week 17: Cowboys inch toward playoffs, Chiefs clinch home field
By Randy Gurzi
The Philadelphia Eagles were officially eliminated from the playoffs in Week 16, which feels weird to say since they have just four wins. Still, at 4-10-1, they were in the mix up until their loss to the Dallas Cowboys, a loss that highlighted a lot of their flaws.
Philly continues to have major issues on defense as they let the struggling Cowboys offense move the ball up and down the field on them. They surrendered 377 yards and three touchdowns to Andy Dalton and watched Ezekiel Elliott turn back the clock and gain 105 yards on 19 carries.
In addition to their defensive woes, the Eagles had a tough time blocking as Jalen Hurts was under duress all game. He was sacked three times and had two picks and a lost fumble. They also saw him make some of the same mistakes Carson Wentz did, including throwing a pick in the end zone when his team was trying to get back into the game.
Now, they turn their attention to the offseason and will have to figure out what to do under center. Hurts has shown promise, but he still isn’t getting wins. Do they really want to go with him full-time and move on from the former No. 2 pick with the $100 million contract? That’s something they need to answer, and can now start working on.
