How can the Dallas Cowboys become contenders in 2021?
Somehow, the Dallas Cowboys are about to enter Week 17 with a shot at making the playoffs. Their latest win over the Philadelphia Eagles was huge for them as it kept them alive in a frustratingly bad division.
At 6-9, they need to find a way to defeat the 5-10 New York Giants on the road and hope that the Philadelphia Eagles can knock off the Washington Football Team. If both those things happen, America’s Team is going to win the NFC East and head to the playoffs.
While that’s all true, most fans understand they’re not exactly going to be a threat to anyone. Without Dak Prescott, this team is decent at best, and has the potential to be flat-out awful — see their two games against Washington as perfect examples.
Having said that, they have proven they can be resilient and when Prescott returns in 2021 (as long as they don’t mess up and lose him in free agency) they can be a team to watch. And if they make a few moves, such as one of these blockbuster trades, they could be legit contenders as well.
4. Foyesade Oluokun, Linebacker
The Dallas Cowboys know how dangerous Foyesade Oluokon can be. When the Cowboys and Atlanta Falcons met in Week 2, Oluokun single-handedly was winning that game for the Dirty Birds.
A third-year linebacker, Oluokun had five tackles and three forced fumbles in the first half as the Falcons were destroying the Cowboys. Then, he left the game with an injury and everything changed. The Dallas offense settled in and wound up winning the game in heroic fashion.
Now with Atlanta changing coaches in the offseason, they could be willing to make some deals — and Dallas needs linebackers in the worst way. They can keep trying to sell us on Leighton Vander Esch and Jaylon Smith but LVE misses too many games and Smith freelances far too often.
Adding Oluokun would give them a much more trusted player who could vastly improve their defense.
