The Washington Football Team released Dwayne Haskins, making him arguably the biggest draft bust of all-time.

There have been some really bad first-round quarterbacks in the NFL but Dwayne Haskins, now formerly of the Washington Football Team, might honestly be the worst of the worst. The No. 15 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft didn’t even play two full seasons with the team who drafted him and is a free agent at the ripe age of 23 after Washington released him.

Haskins was a consensus first-round pick in 2019 and Washington selected at No. 15 after a stellar career at Ohio State. Despite that, he was passed on by the Cardinals (who took Kyler Murray No. 1) and the Giants, who opted to go for Daniel Jones at No. 6 over Haskins. What seemed like a puzzling move at the time turned into the Giants now knowing they made the right decision on passing on Haskins.

Haskins appeared in nine games as a rookie and started seven of those. He went 2-5 in those starts and finished the season throwing for 1,365 yards, seven touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He was the starter for the first four games this year before Ron Rivera demoted him to third-stringer behind Kyle Allen and Alex Smith.

Due to injuries to those two guys, Haskins was thrust back into a starting role and had a second chance at redemption. He failed to redeem himself, however, throwing for just 1,439 yards, five touchdowns, and seven picks in seven games (six starts). Haskins won just three games during his two years with Washington.

Dwayne Haskins will go down in history as one of the biggest draft busts ever.

Think back to some of the worst first-round quarterbacks of all-time. There have been so absolutely terrible names in that category but the reason Haskins outdoes all of them in the bust department is that they all at least made it through their entire second year. Even Johnny Manziel managed to make it two years in the pros before the Browns moved on from him.

Something that makes Haskins’ release even worse is that he was already their third-string quarterback. They decided to move on from their “best” starting option in a must-win Week 17 game and go with Taylor Henickie instead. That’s how bad Dwayne Haskins was.

Not only were the numbers bad for Haskins, but pairing that with his off the field attitude made for a short tenure with Washington. Maybe he hooks on with another team but, even if he does, will he ever be a full-time starter in the NFL again? If not, he’ll go down in history.
