After a dismal season, the New York Jets have officially fired head coach Adam Gase.

It was rather obvious that, amidst an abysmal year and after losing the Trevor Lawrence sweepstakes, the New York Jets would fire head coach Adam Gase once the 2020 season concluded. After Sunday’s loss to the Patriots to finish 2-14, owner Christopher Johnson made the decision and, thus, the Jets will start fresh.

While general manager Joe Douglas is safe from any removal, he does have a hard task ahead of him, working with the new head coach to restore a level of credibility that has not existed in the franchise since 2010.

Whoever assumes the reins of head coach will need to make a decision on a quarterback due to the likelihood that Justin Fields or, by some miracle, Lawrence is on the board.

Given how the roster is devoid of talent in general, the next leader will have to do what Gase could not do. That would be spending the cap wisely on players that can be put into a position to win, something the Jets have not done in a long time.

Adam Gase was a bad decision for the New York Jets from day one.

The image of Adam Gase from his first press conference where his eyes showed doubt should have given the Jets the first indication that this was going to be a struggle. Furthermore, outside of working with Peyton Manning and a mirage of a playoff season in Miami, Gase has struggled with his offenses wherever he has worked.

If needing explanation, look at how Le’Veon Bell regressed upon joining the Jets before heading to Kansas City and seemingly finding his groove once again. Additionally, others such as Jamal Adams and Avery Williamson have found success upon leaving Gase and the Jets in Seattle and Pittsburgh respectively.

Gase is now no longer the head coach in New York and the search for his replacement has begun. Who takes that job remains to be seen and the results that are come remain a mystery. Once again, the Jets are back to square one.
