No more dreaming, the Cleveland Browns are playoff-bound
The Cleveland Browns tumultuous playoff drought is finally over after an 11-5 season.
The Cleveland Browns did it; they finally did it. For the first time since 2002, there will be no misery of missing out on the postseason. A victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the regular-season finale assured Browns fans that their team would play football beyond the regular season.
They, of course, did it with their philosophy of running the football and playing strong defense. It’s easy to say it was against several backups from Pittsburgh; however, in the NFL, if you win the game, it does not matter. Instead of speculation, there can be jubilation among the Dawg Pound, knowing that they broke a streak of misery.
There is the likelihood that, ironically, their first playoff opponent will be the Steelers in Pittsburgh, but confidence is instilled within the team. Furthermore, given how the Steelers have struggled as of late, there is even the chance that Cleveland can pull off an upset and send Pittsburgh home for the offseason.
The Cleveland Browns are in the playoffs, and they look as dangerous as any team.
It’s easy to overlook the Cleveland Browns, given the division they play in, which produced three playoff teams this season. Additionally, given that the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs headline the AFC, the Browns can be considered an afterthought by many.
That would be palpably disappointing. For one, it takes a strong run game, which Cleveland possesses, to help balance out offenses in today’s pass-happy league. Furthermore, if a defense is playing with fresh legs and applying consistent pressure, offenses can crumble. In other words, Cleveland cannot be underestimated.
Baker Mayfield and his Cleveland Browns are in the field. The records are all even, and a new challenge awaits. Their last playoff victory was in 1994 under Bill Belichick’s tutelage and, since then, it has been disappointing year after year.
Not this time. This time is different, and this time, the Browns will actually play a meaningful football game in January. A postseason victory would be even sweeter.
