New York Jets head coach candidate No. 2: Matt Campbell

Current Role: Iowa State Head Coach

It’s rare that you can fully condone the notion of a college head coach making the leap from the NCAA ranks to the NFL when they don’t have a specific niche. For instance, when you look at Lincoln Riley and his offense, it’s no wonder that the professional teams want to bring him into the mix. But the exception to the rule is current Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell, who could be a fascinating fit in New York.

Coaching the Cyclones, Campbell has never been dealt the best hands even in his own conference. Yet, he’s found consistent success because of his ability to build a culture and develop talent. That’s the type of guy that the Jets could use on the sidelines. Hiring Campbell would likely require the franchise to be diligent in their coordinator hires but, to establish a culture in New York, that’s a small price to pay.

New York Jets head coach candidate No. 1: Eric Bieniemy

Current Role: Chiefs Offensive Coordinator

In the simplest possible terms, if Eric Bieniemy isn’t one of the top head coaching candidates for your team that has a vacancy at the position, they’re doing something wrong. Bieniemy, frankly, should’ve been hired last cycle but was unceremoniously overlooked. With the continued success of the Chiefs offense, however, that likely won’t repeat in the 2021 offseason.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Jets have already requested to interview Bieniemy, which is a step in the right direction. He’s clearly been a disciple of Andy Reid in the best offense in the NFL over the past three years and New York could use some of that juice. With a major face lift coming to the roster, the current Kansas City offensive coordinator should be the no-doubt top name on their head coaching list.
