These NFL teams didn’t make the playoffs but watch out for them in the 2021 season.

The additional playoff team added for the 2020 NFL season offered one more club the opportunity to make it into the postseason with a chance at making it to Super Bowl LV. Unfortunately, the new playoff format still left 18 teams on the outside looking in.

An extra team in the NFL Playoffs in relation to previous years wasn’t enough to help these five teams punch their ticket to the postseason.

Whether they missed it quite a bit or just missed out, the 2021 season very well could have a different result for these five NFL squads.

5. Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers are easily one of the top teams when it comes to quarterback luck in the NFL. They had Drew Brees for five years, Philip Rivers for 15 years, and now they’ve already landed what looks to be their next franchise signal-caller in Justin Herbert, who they took No. 6 overall in last year’s draft.

Herbert wowed everyone and should be in strong consideration to win Offensive Rookie of the Year for what he was able to do in a Chargers uniform this season. It’s because of him that the Bolts are going to flip the script next season and vie for a playoff spot. They might not compete with the Chiefs for the AFC West crown but the Chargers are going to be a lot more competitive next season.

Take this year, for example. The Chargers suffered nine losses and all but two of those losses were by one score. They also finished the season on a four-game winning streak and Herbert is the main reason as to why.

There are definitely areas where the Chargers could use some help this offseason, but if they’re able to land a head coaching candidate like Eric Bieniemy, the sky is the limit for them in 2021.
