3. Fix the secondary

In addition to moving on from Mike Nolan, the Dallas Cowboys also have to get their secondary figured out. There are a few free agents with Chidobe Awuzie, Jourdan Lewis, and Xavier Woods all set to hit the open market. While Awuzie is one of the starting corners and Woods has been a starting safety for the past three seasons, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Dallas allow all three of these players to walk.

If that does happen, they suddenly would have only Trevon Diggs and Anthony Brown as dependable corners and Donovan Wilson as a starting-caliber safety. This might not be the worst thing ever, since it would force them to finally look for playmakers at the position — since the current regime hasn’t been getting it done for them.

Dallas needs to make sure to not only attack the secondary in the draft — hopefully with the No. 10 pick they can land someone such as Patrick Surtain from Alabama — but they need to be active in free agency as well. They don’t have to land someone such as Justin Simmons but they need a capable starter to play alongside Wilson and another cornerback would be smart as well.

What they can’t do is go into another season with the same group of players they had. They have struggled now under more than one defensive coordinator and it might be time for some fresh faces.
