Deshaun Watson trade landing spot No. 1: San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers entered the 2020 season as the defending NFC champions, but this season hasn’t gone according to plan. It’s not because the team isn’t talented, but rather that injuries crushed their hopes of repeating as NFC champions.

One of their biggest issues over the years has been the health of Jimmy Garoppolo, who once again, missed a chunk of this season due to injury. Garoppolo stayed healthy in 2019 and the Niners made the Super Bowl, but he’s struggled to stay healthy throughout his career and it’s hurt the organization as a result.

Trading for Watson would give the Niners a durable quarterback and it’d give Kyle Shanahan the quarterback he’s always dreamed of. Watson would have George Kittle as his tight end, promising wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, and a plethora of running backs. The defense was banged up this season, but when Nick Bosa returns, this unit will be back to fearful.

The 49ers could be ready to move on from Garoppolo and if they’re serious about doing so, they need to put all of their chips in the center of the table and get Deshaun Watson to San Francisco.

This could, of course, just be lip service from Watson. Maybe he’s doing this so that the Texans will give him control over organizational decisions, but if I were new Texans GM Nick Caserio, I’d be giving Watson whatever he wants to keep him in town. It’d be foolish for Houston to trade him, but at the same time, if he wants out, it might be difficult to change his mind.
