Julio Jones trade landing spot No. 3: New England Patriots

Much like with the Jets, the New England Patriots enter the 2021 offseason with some uncertainty at quarterback. The departure of Tom Brady was always going to leave a void on Bill Belichick’s roster but they hoped that the free-agent addition of former NFL MVP Cam Newton would help ease the blow and potentially offer a long-term solution at the position.

Things did not play out in that manner, however. Newton remains a dynamic player due to his rushing ability but his passing prowess has been severely diminished. And as a result, all signs point to his time with the Patriots being a one-and-done affair.

Whether the next step at quarterback includes drafting a young player or signing another free agent or even a trade, there is one inescapable truth about the New England offense: Something has to change at wide receiver. For as pleasant of a surprise as Jakobi Meyers has been, it’s hard to find any meaningful pass-catcher for the future currently on the roster.

Especially if the Pats find a veteran quarterback to come in and capitalize on what is still an impressive defense at full strength, Julio Jones could be an ace in the hole for them. It would be costly but Belichick and the franchise are accustomed to winning. Whatever the plan at quarterback, Jones would help make it a favorable transition for New England.
