Chicago Bears looked as if they didn’t belong in ugly loss to Saints
The Chicago Bears looked nothing like a playoff team in an ugly loss to the Saints.
Not even the Wild Card game being broadcast on Nickelodeon could hide the undisciplined nature and the abysmal play of the Chicago Bears. Look no further than Anthony Miller modeling teammate Javon Wims and throwing a punch (leading to an ejection), Wims dropping an easy touchdown or even Cordarrelle Patterson’s inappropriate verbiage.
Chicago’s 21-9 loss in the Wild Card Round to the New Orleans Saints showed the other side of the playoff coin from what we’d seen to this point. Unlike the Colts, who showed fight and grit as the AFC’s No. 7 seed against Buffalo, the Bears were overmatched and seemingly made the wrong decision at every turn.
In the simplest terms, the Bears didn’t resemble a playoff team. Their lone touchdown came as time expired in a game that was thoroughly dominated by New Orleans. The Saints were essentially handed a by week while Chicago was handed a one-way ticket back to the Windy City for the remainder of the postseason.
The Chicago Bears have a lot to fix this offseason on both sides of the ball.
There is no question that Halas Hall will be buzzing with questions and fans seeking answers about the future of the Chicago Bears. Furthermore, the frustration will continue to grow knowing how this team had so much promise just two seasons ago before Cody Parkey’s infamous Double-Doink sent them packing then.
Having said that, it was rather obvious that the Bears weren’t long for the playoffs. A six-game losing streak that put their playoff chances in doubt was evidence enough of that. In fact, it took a slew of lucky breaks and a loss by Arizona to send this team to the postseason, an opportunity that proved to be a futile effort.
The Chicago Bears lost this game because they were ill-prepared, outcoached and overwhelmed. Changes will be made this offseason. What they ultimately are and will lead to are uncertain at this time — but it’s clear that something new is necessary.
