3. Xavier Rhodes, Cornerback
There were calls among the fan base in 2020 to add Xavier Rhodes when he was released by the Minnesota Vikings. Of course, we were also assured that since Rhodes was let go, he was no longer able to play and Dallas should never have shown any interest.
The front office clearly agreed and they ended up signing Daryl Worley and Maurice Canady as they looked to replace Byron Jones. Worley lasted seven games before the Cowboys moved on from him and Canady has yet to play for them since he opted out of the season due to concerns over COVID-19.
As for Rhodes, he went on to have a career-revival in Indianapolis. He started all 16 games for the Colts and had 42 tackles with two picks while grading out as one of the top 25 cornerbacks in the NFL. For some perspective, Dallas might not have had a top-50 cornerback on their team.
They could still have Canady in 2021 and Trevon Diggs did improve drastically throughout the season, but there’s definitely more help needed. Dallas will likely spend the No. 10 pick on a cornerback but adding someone such as Rhodes on a one-year deal the way Indy did in 2020 would be a wise move as well.
Not only would he be a great mentor for the younger players on the team, but he would be the best defensive back on the roster, hands down.
