Green Bay Packers: 5 Players critical to defeating Rams in Divisional Round
By Joe Kipp
1. Aaron Jones, RB
The time is now for Aaron Jones. The Packers have been somewhat conservative with Jones’ usage so far this season. Perhaps they were saving him for the playoffs. Whatever the case may be, Green Bay will need their do-it-all running back to show up in a big way against Los Angeles on Saturday in the Divisional Round of the playoffs.
Jones, who’s currently playing out the final year of his rookie contract, could potentially be playing his last game in a Packers uniform. Jones was selected to his first Pro Bowl this season, but Green Bay has not shown much interest in re-signing him recently since contract negotiations began last spring. Because of that, Jones fired his former agent last month and hired Drew Rosenhaus.
In that case, Jones needs to show why he’s worthy of a contract extension. And what better way to do so than in a playoff game against the NFL’s No. 1 defense. If Jones puts up over 100 yards and a touchdown, it’s highly likely the Packers win this game.
Jones finished the season as the NFL’s fourth-leading rusher (1,104 yards) and posted a healthy 5.5 yards per carry average. With receiver Davante Adams set to take on a ton of attention from Jalen Ramsey and the Rams secondary, Jones could be a major factor in the passing game.
