Indianapolis Colts QB option No. 5: Kyle Trask

Putting quarterback prospects on this list is difficult because we have no idea how the first round is going to play out. It’s even more difficult because the Colts don’t pick until No. 21 overall, meaning there’s a good chance all of the big names are off the board by then.

The Colts could definitely trade up if they like any of the quarterbacks they meet with, but the likeliest ‘top tier’ quarterbacks remaining at or near their draft position are Kyle Trask and Mac Jones, who we’ll get to shortly.

Trask is someone who has sometimes been mocked as high as a top 10 pick, but also there are mock drafts where he falls to the second round. He’d be a project quarterback for the Colts for sure, but there’s definitely upside to what he could provide long-term.

If this, or drafting Jones, was the choice, the Colts would need to sign a veteran free agent to help mentor either rookie. Re-signing Jacoby Brissett could make a lot of sense if this was the direction taken.

Indianapolis Colts QB option No. 4: Mac Jones

Jones is probably the biggest name quarterback the Colts could have a decent shot at landing at pick 21. He won’t go in the top 10, but could most definitely find himself as a late first-round pick.

Jones had a nice season at Alabama, which saw him nominated for the Heisman Trophy and also win a National Championship. Now he’ll enter the NFL Draft hoping to hear his name called by a team like the Colts who have all of the pieces in place.

Like Trask, Jones probably wouldn’t start right away, and having someone like Brissett to help mentor him would be a smart idea for Indianapolis. Jones would fit in well with the Colts though and he’d go from having a dominant offensive line at Alabama to being in the same situation in Indianapolis.
