Miami Dolphins perfect draft fit No. 5: Zaven Collins, LB, Tulsa

The Fins had a really good defense in terms of being opportunistic and stingy. Brian Flores proved he was and is a defensive guru. However, one of their weaknesses was their linebacker room. Jerome Baker is a stud but he needs a running mate. A decorated athlete like Zaven Collins is an ideal fit for Flores’ defense.

Collins is a versatile backer who lines up all over the field. One major concern for the Fins is their inability to cover backs and tight ends. At 6-4, 260 pounds, Collins proved he’s a great mover in space. He can drop into coverage and help in ways no other backer on the roster can. Collins shows good instincts and great ball skills; look no further than his four interceptions.

If used primarily off the edge, he could be a double-digit sack guy. Collins shows explosiveness off the edge. He closes in on ball carriers with his stride when cashing plays behind the line. And his long arms allow him to wrap and take down ball carriers with ease.

The Bronko Nagurski Award-winning backer’s floor is Anthony Barr, which is one heck of a high bar. With Flores coaching him, Collins could be a high-impact weapon for the Fins in year one. They’ll have to spend the No. 18 pick on him; Najee Harris is another option but they can get star back later.
