Green Bay Packers: 7-Round 2021 NFL mock draft after another NFC Championship loss
Again, the cornerback group needs help and, as a fifth-round pick, Ambry Thomas could offer that in a really enticing way. He’s a great athlete with functional speed and quickness and a great feel for man coverage, especially when he’s tasked with pressing at the line of scrimmage. He needs to be more consistent with his jams and recovery get-off but his upside and experience with Michigan make him a nice late-round addition to a group that needs more bodies.
One area that’s not a dire concern but could use some depth-related attention is the defensive line. They have a stud in Kenny Clark and other nice contributors as well. But they need more juice from the backups.
Khyiris Tonga is an absolute behemoth at 6-4, 322 pounds and can eat up space in a hurry. The Packers would need to work on his functional strength and use of his size but, with some nice movement ability within his massive frame, he’s an intriguing addition.
Wide receiver still needs attention, even after taking Brown in Round 3. So they dip into a deep class at the position in the 2021 NFL Draft again to take Dax Milne out of BYU and they have to like what he could offer. Milen thrived with Zach Wilson in the Cougars offense as a big-play and possession threat. While he may be a limited athlete, he displays solid route-running and football IQ that could make him a sneaky good addition for Rodgers to work with.
Secondary gets another look in this 2021 NFL mock draft as they turn to Florida safety Shawn Davis with their second selection of the sixth round. Davis has great versatility and ability as a coverage safety who can cover a lot of ground. He does need to work on his consistency as a tackler and, frankly, at learning how to haul in interceptions regularly. But even still, adding him as a coverage player for nickel and dime packages and depth should help Green Bay.
After taking AJ Dillon in the second round a year ago, running back isn’t a dire need for the Green Bay Packers by any stretch. However, with the possibility of Aaron Jones leaving this offseason, they do need to look for more options in the backfield.
CJ Marable was one of the stars for Coastal Carolina amid their phenomenal run in the 2020 college season. He doesn’t have exceptional speed but he runs with nice burst and a good feel for RPO plays, which could fit in well to the Packers offense.
