Tom Brady, Buccaneers stun Packers to host Super Bowl 55 in Tampa Bay
Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be the first team in NFL history to host a Super Bowl after their stunning win over the Packers in Lambeau Field.
Without a doubt, it is the most stunning surprise of the 2020 NFL season that Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are playing in Super Bowl LV. How was it that they were able to shake off the Saints, go on the road to the coldest arena in sports in Lambeau Field, and overcome Aaron Rodgers, their doubters and the cold? The answer is simple: resilience.
Like the 2002 team that sent Veteran’s Stadium into the ground at Philadelphia, the Buccaneers came through in the final moments with a 31-26 victory. Their quarterback looked at his resume and believed that he was missing an important ring.
He has that chance now, as does his team as they look to Super Bowl LV in their home stadium with, hopefully, better conditions than they had to face. Brady on the other hand needs to improve his play given what took place in the second half.
As for Brady’s teammates on defense, they were fueled by words themselves. They made the stops when needed after the offense sputtered in the second half. They knew about how head coach Bruce Arians came up short a couple of years ago in a rough conference title game loss to Carolina.
This time, they wanted to win it for the old man, and they did their job. Now, they can warm up on the flight back and actually begin focusing on the Super Bowl, which they were not allowed to do the prior week.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers escaped with a win and Tom Brady will need to play better for a Super Bowl championship.
Brady does not deserve all the credit. In fact, he struggled in the second half with three turnovers. All of which he caused. Yet, they won the game. While Tampa Bay does benefit from playing in their home stadium, they will not be the favorite, at least by fan opinions. Before the season began, there was widespread talk about how Tampa Bay’s players and coaches would adapt to a new personality and whether or not they would make the necessary adjustments.
All of that is to be tossed aside. Tampa Bay went through their growing pains and found a way to get it done. They can now look at their jerseys with the Super Bowl patch on them and realize the prize is only one fight away. As for their quarterback, this victory may be the greatest of his career should he come away smiling in two weeks. He already debunked the myth of a system quarterback, and now he can focus on winning, although he will need to play better to ensure a championship.
There will be plenty of talk as to how this game ended. But in the end, Tom Brady came through when it mattered most, much to the joy of the Tampa Bay fans who have longed for a chance at a championship that has been lacking for nearly two decades. The prize is one win away, and the Buccaneers have a luxury of true home-field advantage.
