1. Sign or draft a vertical threat at wide receiver

Over the past few seasons, this has been an evergreen statement but that doesn’t make it any less true coming into the 2021 offseason. The Packers saw an all-world season from star wide receiver Davante Adams. But while role players such as Lazard and Marquez Valdes-Scantling popped up throughout the year, the depth of the position is still an issue.

What we saw from Lazard and MVS throughout the year is that they are not nearly consistent enough in their roles to be considered a viable No. 2 option. And even though Valdes-Scantling does have nice deep speed, the Packers have been lacking a viable vertical threat in the offense to put opposite of Adams in the passing attack.

Adams is phenomenal with his route-running to create space at all levels of the field. However, he can be limited if he’s bracketed in coverage and, as such, is kept in front of defenders who don’t allow him to get into space. Adding a vertical element to the offense with a speedster would open him up even further, a scary notion considering how good he already is.

The draft offers numerous options for the Packers to do this. If they look in the first round, they could go after someone like Kadarius Toney or a number of other big-play receiver prospects. The mid rounds are also deep and have several other options. There is also an intriguing free agency class with the likes of TY Hilton available. No matter how they do it, though, this is an element that the offense direly needs.
