The Green Bay Packers with Jordan Love could find themselves in a similar situation that the Patriots were in back in 2017 with Jimmy Garoppolo.

When the Green Bay Packers made the decision to trade up and draft Jordan Love in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, that was a clear indicator that they were getting ready to move on from Aaron Rodgers. After Rodgers had an incredible season, however, the Packers might not be so sure of that decision.

Love didn’t play a single snap for the Packers in 2020 and it’s very possible he rides the bench for Green Bay for several years, as Rodgers showed zero signs of slowing down this season. This is a similar situation to what the New England Patriots went through over three years ago when they had both Tom Brady and Jimmy Garoppolo on their quarterback depth chart.

The Patriots had selected Garoppolo in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft and the Patriots won two more Super Bowls with Brady at the helm. Eventually, Garoppolo was flipped to the 49ers and the Patriots kept at it with Brady until 2020 when they agreed to part ways.

Could the Green Bay Packers end up trading Jordan Love in the next few years?

Rodgers clearly isn’t on his way out of the league any time soon and the Packers would be fools to trade him or move on from him in any capacity. No one has seen Love in action yet and while Rodgers sat for several years while Brett Favre continued to play, the NFL is a whole different animal now and that’s not a great strategy as far as Love’s future is concerned.

Teams might find themselves interested in Love, but the reason why Garoppolo was so highly sought after was that he was able to play in a few games during Brady’s suspension in 2016. He looked good in those games and that’s why the Patriots were able to get a decent trade on the table. Love hasn’t played yet so teams trading for him would be doing so out of intrigue.

Rodgers is only 37 and we’re seeing quarterbacks play into their 40s now so it’s not unfathomable that he could be the Packers quarterback for three or four more years. If that’s the case, would Love be on the move? It’ll be interesting to see what happens with the Packers as far as Rodgers and Love are concerned.
