The Dallas Cowboys shouldn’t go with an offensive skill player in the first round, but what if they do?

Last offseason, it seemed to be a foregone conclusion that the Dallas Cowboys were going to add a defensive player with their first pick in the NFL Draft. Of course, they didn’t since CeeDee Lamb fell in their laps.

But now, they absolutely have to go defense, right? Well, one would think so, but this front office has already shown that if the right player is there, they will choose the best player over the biggest need.

Here, we have a new seven-round mock draft where that’s exactly what happens as the Cowboys take an offensive skill-player at No. 10. Let’s see how that shapes the rest of their draft.

player. 840. . TE. Gators . Kyle Pitts. 1

Last season, the Cowboys were in desperate need of a defensive player, and LSU defensive end K’Lavon Chaisson was sitting there for the taking. But so was CeeDee Lamb from Oklahoma — who Dallas apparently had as their No. 6 overall player in the entire class.

Dallas ended up taking Lamb, who also filled a need since they didn’t have a third wideout, which sent the Dallas fanbase into a mix of excitement and questions about why they ignored the need at defense.

In this mock, they again send the fanbase into a frenzy as they take Kyle Pitts from Florida at No. 10 overall. Tight end might not be a major need considering they have Blake Jarwin and Dalton Schultz but neither of them are nearly as explosive as Pitts.

The 6-6, 246-pounder racked up 770 yards and 12 touchdowns in just eight games. Adding him gives Dallas an offense where teams have to pick their poison. A starting team with Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott, Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, CeeDee Lamb, and Pitts is simply unfair.

Of course, this does mean they once again will have issues on defense unless they hit some home runs in the following rounds as well as in free agency. While we won’t look at free agency here, let’s see how the rest of the draft unfolds should they again go for the splash pick in Round 1.
