2021 NFL Mock Draft: Texans trade Deshaun Watson to Panthers, land Justin Fields
The Green Bay Packers have one star cornerback in Jaire Alexander. However, Kevin King never fully materialized as a player and is set to hit free agency. On top of that, the depth at the position was a concern, one that was exploited throughout the year and especially in the playoffs. Thus, it should be their primary focus to fix that issue this offseason.
With that in mind, then Asante Samuel Jr. is the natural choice at No. 29. With obvious NFL bloodlines, the only knock on the Florida State product is his size. He doesn’t have traditional outside corner size but he checks every box otherwise. With that and great physical tools to go with versatility, Samuel could pair with Alexander to be a top-tier duo.
For as good as Tremaine Edmunds could be and for as well as Matt Milano has performed at times, the Buffalo Bills defense continues to need help at linebacker. They lack consistency against the run and when dropping into coverage. So if the Bills want to focus on that, then they could look at a player like Missouri’s Nick Bolton to take the next step.
Bolton has the size and explosiveness at the position to be a tremendous asset in run defense but has also thrived when tasked with dropping into zone coverage. He does need to work on his discipline and, relatedly, being over-aggressive. But in terms of what he’s capable of doing, he could be a complete player that helps to anchor the Bills defense.
