While many would love to see a cornerback here, the 49ers don’t get that luxury but they can address a notable weakness in a big way. The interior of the offensive line has often been a patchwork unit for this team and, while they have still succeeded, some upgrades wouldn’t hurt in the slightest.

Creed Humphrey would undoubtedly be an upgrade at the center position with at least the possibility to get a look at guard. He’s not the best athlete but he’s incredibly strong and one of the smartest and technically sound interior linemen in the class. He’d be a plus asset to help protect the offense for the long term.

Cornerback is likely a bigger priority for the 49ers than using a third-round compensatory pick on a player but that’s the way the board fell. They would love for someone of value to be there for them in the middle of the second round but that wasn’t the case in this mock draft. Thus, they settle for Rodarius Williams in the third.

The brother of Browns corner Greedy Williams, Rodarius will need some coaching to develop to defending pro-style offenses in terms of his technique. However, his blend of length and instincts should serve him well as he learns to be more disciplined in his reads and when to identify and break when dropping back.

There has been a need at safety for the 49ers for quite some time and they finally get to address the need in a major way with Andre Cisco. In the simplest terms, the Syracuse product has the tools to be a great value pick who could take a large portion of the free safety snaps right away in this defense.

Cisco possesses nice athleticism for the position but his greatest asset is his nose for the ball. He’s always around the pigskin to make plays, whether they be pass breakups or forcing turnovers. Adding a player of his caliber on the back end could be huge, especially if he’s coached up in run defense and technique in coverage.
