Losing in Super Bowl LV wasn’t the ending the Kansas City Chiefs had hoped for, but there’s one big reason for optimism moving forward.

No one thought the Kansas City Chiefs were going to get blown out in Super Bowl LV, especially considering the team hadn’t been blown out in a game (not counting Week 17 when they rested their starters) since Week 4 of 2016. That was before Patrick Mahomes took over as the quarterback of the team and before the offense became one of the most explosive units we’ve ever witnessed.

Throughout the postseason, I covered the losing teams and the biggest reason for optimism they had moving forward after getting eliminated from the playoffs. For some teams, it was their improving defense while others maybe it was simply winning a playoff game.

The Chiefs are in a different category though. They won Super Bowl LIV and made it to Super Bowl LV, which was an accomplishment on its own. It’s hard making it to back-to-back Super Bowls and the Chiefs did just that.

The reason Chiefs fans shouldn’t be upset over this loss is because Kansas City will go to a few more Super Bowls over the next decade. They’ll have that opportunity because of Patrick Mahomes, who despite what the stats read from Sunday’s lopsided loss, played well and did all he could with a banged-up offensive line in front of him.

As long as the Kansas City Chiefs have Patrick Mahomes under center, they’ll be in a position to win the game.

Even when the Chiefs were down 21-6 at half time, fans still weren’t giving up hope. While the comeback never happened, as it did so many times last year, losing Super Bowl LV isn’t the end for this Chiefs team. Mahomes is the best quarterback in the league and he’s always going to give them a chance to win.

Even with a decimated offensive line, he did everything he could. That throw he made to Darrel Williams that hit him right in the face mask was an insane throw that should never be able to be attempted in the first place. That throw will get lost in the shuffle and I really hope that losing this game doesn’t become a blemish on Mahomes’ resumé.

I know it’s hard Chiefs fans, but just know that your quarterback has as good a chance as any to turn things around and be back in the big game this time next year.
