Pick Analysis. OT. Oregon. 56. Scouting Report. Penei Sewell. 5. player

The Cincinnati Bengals were more than thrilled with the play of Joe Burrow as a rookie in 2020, but they surely didn’t like how his first NFL campaign concluded. The LSU product was able to record 2,688 yards with a 13-to-5 touchdown-to-interception ratio and added another 142 yards and three touchdowns in his first 10 games.

Then, he suffered a terrible knee injury and was lost for the season. With him set as the face of the franchise, they now need to keep him from being hurt again which is why they take Penei Sewell here. What stands out with Sewell is how he’s strong in both the run and passing game, which is pointed out by Drae Harris of The Draft Network.

"“Penei Sewell aligns at left tackle and is a good athlete overall, as evidenced in his initial quickness of the snap and his body control and balance in his set. In the run game, he demonstrates his physical toughness as an in-line blocker. He comes off the ball with the intent to maul you inside and he’s dominant on combo blocks. In the passing game, he demonstrates his competitiveness and length on the perimeter.” — Harris, The Draft Network"

Cincinnati plays in what has quickly become one of the toughest divisions in the NFL, so they will need much more than Sewell to become competitive but this is a step in the right direction.
