Way-too-early 2021 NFL Power Rankings: Rams, Packers, Chiefs chasing Buccaneers
By Randy Gurzi
It’s hard to find a team that swung and missed worse than the Chicago Bears did in the 2017 NFL Draft. They moved up from the No. 3 overall pick to the No. 2 selection, which was a move that was mocked in itself. Making it worse was the fact that they chose Mitchell Trubisky with that selection.
Videos of the fan base going crazy with anger surfaced as soon as the selection was announced. They clearly didn’t believe in the young quarterback who had just one season of experience at North Carolina. Now, it appears the Bears are moving on from Trubisky after four seasons of up and down play.
As if that wasn’t enough, the Bears have had to live with the knowledge that they took Trubisky ahead of Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson. Sure, Mahomes wasn’t expected to be the star he is after playing at Texas Tech but Watson showed out over and over for Clemson and probably should have been the pick.
Of course, we can’t go back and change time but the Bears are admitting their mistake. Unfortunately, this means yet another rebuild because clearly, Nick Foles isn’t the answer unless he gets to face a Tom Brady-led team every week.
