Way-too-early 2021 NFL Power Rankings: Rams, Packers, Chiefs chasing Buccaneers
By Randy Gurzi
Talk about selling the future to try and win now. The Los Angeles Rams have never been shy about trading away draft picks for veteran talent and this offseason, they did it again. Looking to upgrade their quarterback situation, the Rams dealt away Jared Goff, a couple of first-round picks, and a third-rounder for Matthew Stafford.
Is Stafford an upgrade over Goff? Absolutely. Was he such an upgrade that it should have cost them as much as they spent? That’s debatable. Some will say yes, while others are unsure but the fact is, Sean McVay knows offense better than just about anyone and if he thinks they can win it all with Stafford, then it makes sense to pull the trigger on this deal.
Having said that, if the Rams don’t end up winning a title with Stafford, they could be in a lot of trouble. They don’t have a first-round pick until 2024 which limits how they can build around their quarterback — and it really leaves them in a bad spot if something were to happen to their quarterback.
Still, that’s not what this ranking is about. These 2021 NFL Power Rankings look at how the teams are set up for 2021 and Los Angeles is a playoff team that got better. That’s why they come in as high as they do.
