J.J. Watt free agency landing spot No. 3: Green Bay Packers

Considering that the Green Bay Packers are coming off of back-to-back NFC Championship Game appearances and with Aaron Rodgers on the heels of winning his third NFL MVP award, it’s clear that this franchise is heavily in contention to try and win a Super Bowl sooner rather than later. But there is work to do for that to transpire.

There is no doubt a need on offense to solidify some areas, specifically in regards to the pass-catchers. They have to add wide receiver talent around Davante Adams this offseason. And on defense, cornerback is a key concern as the depth around Jaire Alexander is severely lacking. Furthermore, the linebacker group could use reinforcements as well.

Having said all of that, the defensive line is an area that could quietly use some attention. When healthy, Kenny Clark has been a stud in the middle but the pieces around him have been replacement level — not bad but certainly not great. That’s something that Watt could potentially change.

In a homecoming for the Wisconsin Badgers star, Watt could come to the Packers and give them one of the fiercest pass-rush groups in the NFL, slotting in as one of the down ends with Za’Darius Smith and Preston Smith on the edge. Green Bay will have to maneuver the salary cap to make that happen as they are currently projected over the cap but it’s possible if they want to sign the former All-Pro.
