J.J. Watt free agency landing spot No. 1: Cleveland Browns

The ascension of the Cleveland Browns in the first year under head coach Kevin Stefanski can’t be understated. After an abysmal showing in relation to expectations in 2019, they won double-digit games to punch a ticket to the playoffs and then were able to capture a postseason win — over the rival Steelers in emphatic fashion, no less.

However, this is a team that is clearly building with the intention of finally becoming a Super Bowl contender. The offense is in great shape with the line fortified, Baker Mayfield realizing his potential, a host of weapons in tow and Stefanski running the ship. But the defense is where there are some questions.

This offseason, Cleveland has some tough decisions to make as Olivier Vernon is set to depart in free agency and they have other guys to re-sign. More importantly, the Browns are a team that has just over $21.6 million in cap space, so they could make a big move for someone like J.J. Watt to address the need for defensive line depth.

When you consider the teams that Watt could help elevate to contend, the Browns have to be in that mix. This is a team on the rise in a major way and adding a player of Watt’s caliber could be a game-changer to help solidify the defense.
