Russell Wilson trade: 5 NFL teams that should be calling Seahawks
Russell Wilson trade landing spot No. 1: Las Vegas Raiders
It feels like people have been trying to get Derek Carr off the Las Vegas Raiders from the moment that Jon Gruden took over as head coach. Early on in the head coach’s tenure, it was due to a perceived ceiling for Carr’s performance. But after a year like 2020 in which Carr played wonderfully, the potential justifications have changed.
Gruden is infamous for always looking and assessing his options at quarterback. He’s a student of the position — as evidenced by his programming on ESPN during his broadcasting days — and is always looking for ways in which he can push himself and improve at the position. So while Carr has been good of late, Gruden seemingly wouldn’t pass up a big opportunity.
Trading for Russell Wilson is an undeniably big opportunity and one that would seemingly fit what Gruden and Mike Mayock are all about. This is a regime that has been heavily focused on building their team with the “right type of guys” that can both perform on the field but also help to establish a positive culture.
Wilson fits that description more than aptly. Subsequently, if the Raiders want to get ultra-aggressive and try to make this deal, it’s hard to say that it would overly shocking given everything that we know.
