Dallas Cowboys free agency: 4 Defensive players they need to add
By Randy Gurzi
1. Marcus Williams, Safety
This is one that feels like a lost cause to wish for. The Dallas Cowboys need safety help in the worst way, and they have needed that help for years. For some reason, they have continued to ignore that need and it has continued to bite them.
Now, the Cowboys frustratingly stubborn front office might be even more inclined to pay a safety after the move for HaHa Clinton-Dix failed, but that one wasn’t exactly a great move on their part. Sure, it seemed as though Clinton-Dix should be a starter, but the fact is, he had been bouncing from team to team for a while.
What Dallas needs to do, is bite the bullet and pay a prove n safety — especially since they have shown they won’t draft one before Round 6. That’s where Marcus Williams comes in.
A second-round pick out of Utah in 2017, there were plenty of Dallas fans that wanted Williams that season but instead, he landed with the New Orleans Saints. He’s spent the past four years as their starting free safety and has 246 tackles, 13 interceptions, and 30 pass defenses.
Simply put, Williams is the centerfielder this defense hasn’t had in decades. And if Dallas wants to be a winning team, they need that type of player who can make teams pay for trying to go deep on them too many times.
